Memes and Crabbing
Brigitte tagged me:
1. What was I doing 10 years ago? Geez. Pretty much what I'm doing right now. I can't decide if that's depressing or progress.
2. What are 5 things on my to-do list today - in no particular order? To Do list?
3. Snacks I enjoy - spoonfuls of peanut butter, almonds, insanely complicated Martha Stewart recipes (I made the pineapple mousse yesterday last week. If I'd just READ the recipe first, I'd've never attempted it. But it was pretty yummy.) (Not that it's gone yet). Corn chips.
Note: I hate Typepad's "improvements". It's so SLOW.
4. Places I've lived - Wow. All mostly within a 30 mile radius. Oakland, Concord, Lafayette, Walnut Creek.
5. Things I would do if I were a billionaire - buy more books and yarn. Travel. Squander my money shamelessly. Put air conditioning in the local High School's multi use room. (The hottest day of the year, I was at a concert at the HS. It hovered around 104 for four days and not a lot cooler at night. (That's 40 degrees celcius.) Thankfully the heat wave broke but now I'm cold. I know, whine, whine. ) Make one of my charities happy. Although a billion dollars isn't going to go that far for that long in CA. Check out the gas prices from May 2nd.
I tried to get an updated picture last night, but evidently gas signs require posing and special lighting and possibly a sacrifice to photograph well.
Gas is $3.99 for the cheap grade as of last night.
6. Peeps I want to know more about (by blogname) mumblings, Red Shirt Knitting (click just for the puppy videos), Twig's (mis)Adventures in Knitting, Knitting By The Sea, WIP Insanity, and Wound Too Tight.
Along the lines of LOLCats, check out LOL Manuscripts.
See the
Cute kitty! The darling snuggling cat in the previous post is Portia, the brother & SiL's new kitten and this is......either another picture of Portia or her new sibling, Halo. Cutie pie, eh?
See her? Snuggling under the covers? Good thing I don't tuck my sheets in.
I was dragged to the Peddler's Fair in Martinez on Saturday, where it was a much cooler 101 degrees. The fair itself wasn't that impressive but I FOUND A CHAIR! Finally. Great price, super comfortable, fits in my bedroom.
Crabbing about TV: So far, all the shows have ended with death, teams disbanded or a cast members dying or being carted off in chains (metaphorically speaking, hopefully). This is an annoying trend and if EVERYONE is doing it, it's NOT pushing the envelope, dear Network Executives/Writers. It's a cliche. My only hope is that they kill Jack off tonight on Lost, proving that there really is teeth in network decisions and karmic justice.
Crabbing about Typepad: If it takes me AN HOUR to edit a simple post, I'm not going to be able to blog EVER. This is ridiculous. I've switched to HTML to type, let's see how it shows up when I switch back to "rich text". No, that is not a misuse of quotation marks.
Crabbing about Knitting: I want the lace edged top, the cable cardigan, the Jaywalkers I started last summer to all be DONE. Preferably without any further effort from me, because like Don Juan, the thrill is gone and I'm fascinated by another.
Worrying about California: Keep a good thought for the folks in Santa Cruz and the firefighters - there is a pretty raging fire going on down there right now.

Do you watch MI-5 on BBC American? I am desperate to find someone who is watching that show.
I might have cried a little at the season finale of House, but I'm not proud of it.

What is it with killing characters this year? Although, gotta say, not going to miss Jenny on NCIS. I do hope Jethro miraculously brings the team back together though. I don't know what I hope for on Lost because I don't know what the hell is going on.
Have you read anything by Geraldine Brooks? I'm loving People of the Book.

Did we talk about Oakland before? Cuz I lived there as a kid. (Well, Pleasanton and Livermore.) For kicks the other day, I google-mapped my old house. It was pretty cool.

Love the new chair!
Finally watched the last House & it was sad. :( Poor Jimmy. He never catches a break.

Yea - I could spend a whole post crabbing. I really like your new chair - excellent colors!
Posted by: Guinifer | May 22, 2008 at 01:05 PM
Hah! You're on my bloglines so I read every time you update - I'm a TV addict so I actually am very interested in your TV updates!
Well, you might be sorry now because I am a serial commenter.

Amber & Jenny dying was OK. Lake in handcuffs was not. Booth faking his death was hokey.
The chair looks great. Very elegant!

That is an awesome chair find! Very nice!
I have no idea what you're talking about TV wise. I'm so out of it.
See you Saturday!

I really like that chair! Just perfect for reading in.

Love the chair! Nice find!
Did you watch Grey's Anatomy tonight????? Loved it!

That's another picture of Portia. Halo is a full-grown calico, with gray, peach and white markings. I don't know if Tim has sent you any pictures of her.
SiL
P.S. Portia is about twice the size she was in that picture. We've had her for three weeks and she's gone from 11 ounces to 25. She will be big.

Um, did you see Criminal Minds?? Eeeps.
If Labyrinth is making you a tab bit crabby, wait 'til you get to Sepulchre. Downright. Crotchety. *grumble*
Hi! I'm back!

Wow --- I thought you'd been out to catch your own dinner. ("crabbing")
Is my face red. . .

Cheap grade gas (which my car hates) is $3.85 here right now.
Ugh about Typepad! Can you submit a ticket to them??
For a minute, I thought you had a new kitten. :)

Carrie- If you need a hand squandering the money- do let me know.
Jewel told me about the fires last night- that's scary stuff.

Great chair! I'd like to clone it, please, and I'd also like a clone of Portia. Thank-you.
The last episode of "House" was devastating. Since I don't watch the other shows, I didn't have the high-drama-overload reaction, so I can fret all summer about Wilson and House, House and Cuddy, and whether the ducklings will be a bigger presence next year. Lucky me!
Posted by: melanie | May 23, 2008 at 07:48 AM
Yup, yup, yup. Watched Bones and House on Monday and was made cranky. Grr... I had the exact same reaction to Labyrinth, which I even bought in hardback when it came out (I had a coupon, so that's not as dramatic a statement as it might be). I hope things are staying cooler for you up there!

That's a very handsome chair!!
Jack will never die. :(

All I can say is Wordpress rocks.

Just think of all the wonderful ways Jack could be killed off on Lost. It's such a lovely idea. And it will never happen. Most unfortunately.

Typepad has not yet *upgraded* me with their new thingie. Sounds like that is a Good Thing.

You're so funny! Love the kitties (yeah, I see Hez) and the chair. And, even your crabbing is hilarious. I had no idea there was a fire anywhere. That's how with-it I've been, this past week. We've had things going on. I'm ready to immerse myself in blogs, again. It's so much better than the real world.

I love the chair! And ha ha, your bed is as surrounded by books as mine.
Posted by: dew | June 04, 2008 at 02:18 PM
Two of my all-time favorite things from your blog:
1. the honesty of saying that if you had a billion dollars you'd buy more books and yarn (and gas)
and
2. what is in your emergency kit.
We must be sisters separated at birth! And my guess is we have a lot of other siblings out there... (Wonder if they overuse elipses too?)
