Walnut Creek

Mmip_565_edited Bonana St Books, Out of Business. Walnut Creek officially has no more independent bookstores, to my knowledge. Mmip_564_edited

Other, more random Walnut Creek pictures,

Mmip_561 driving up Main St crossing Ygnacio.

The Motor Lodge has been there forever but there used to be little restaurants across the street where the multi story office buildings are now.  Farther up Main by California Mmip_563 St

Recognize the French Restaurant? Mmip_563_edited Le Virage, home of countless anniversaries, prom dates and celebrations.

Random vehicle I couldn't resist taking a picture of on.....Broadway, maybe? Mmip_559 As if it matters.

TV News: (What? I couldn't stay mad at TV for long.) Bones has moved to Monday at 8pm followed by House which is a much better time slot for me, so expect it to change.

I tried to watch Cranford last night but found it a little slow going (I'm still slogging through Queen Isabella, thankyouverymuch) and there's some glitch in the show.  A man's voice appears to be narrating the story in an undertone. It's maddening because you can't quite hear him distinctly.

Mmip_579_edited This is what I'm currently knitting. It's the Lacy Prairie Shawl from Folk Shawls turned into a stole. Hopefully to be finished by Mother's Day.

Mmip_578_edited This is what I'm knitting in my head. The skein from La's surprise package.  100 % silk and 1000 yards (or meters or whatever, I think) and wouldn't it be cute as the Bridesmaid Wrap from Suss Cousins Wedding Knits?

Sad news last Saturday. My brother & sil's beloved cat, Charity passed away.  She'd been rescued by them a few years back, abandoned at a ski resort and just a big sweetie. Charity_edited_2 This was only two months after they lost their kitty cat of 16 years.

Aw, thanks for posting Charity's picture. We had 10 years and almost 2 months with the Purring Buddha. Lung cancer took her from us.

Bonanza St. Books is gone, too. What a sad beginning to May.

SiL

P.S.

Neither of us smoke. My Beloved took that photo with the webcam about two weeks before she died. Gorgeous and loving to the end.

Damn, that means I missed House tonight. When are they going to settle on a schedule?

Sorry to hear of her passing. She was beautiful!

An FO by Sunday? You can do it!

So sorry to hear about Charity. :( And sad about the last independent bookstore in Walnut Creek, too. Bright truck!

So sorry to hear about Charity.

Look at all those goodies in your last post - Wow! I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Cranford much. I wonder what was going on with the voice.

So sorry about Charity. What a beautiful kitty! I clicked on the photo and she looks like an oil painting -- to pretty to be real.

So sad about the bookstore.

So sad about the bookstore.

It's always sad when a bookstore closes, or for that matter, any local business. Around here they all seem to become dry cleaners, cell phone, or accessories shops ...

I'm so sorry to hear about Charity. She was beautiful, and I'm sure she is more than missed. Everyone at our house (furry and otherwise) will say a special prayer for her, and all of you.

Is it just a coincidence that the same shade of blue can be found in 7 of those pictures?

What?!?!? Bonanza Books is out of business!!! How did I miss this?!?! That is terrible, just terrible. Man, now I am really bummed. I loved that store. :(

And I am so sorry to hear about Charity and the other kitty. So sad.

I'm going to have to get Queen Isabella. I read her novel about Lady Jane Grey last year, and I'm currently reading her new novel on Elizabeth.

So sad about the kitty.

Sorry to hear about Charity.
Thanks for the pics of Walnut Creek. That will be the nearest I get to it, now days, but we used to go there often.

Aw, poor Charity.

John has an interesting point about that shade of blue.

DH's half-sister manages the Lafayette Book Store, and told him that independents are having a harder time than ever between the economy, Ipods, and big box stores, both brick and mortar and Internet.... sad, isn't it, to think that there may end up being people who have never experienced the joys of perusing the shelves, smelling the new books. Your silk is very promising, and I so love the colors.... Sad to hear about the lovely cat, though.

Aw, poor sweet Charity! But she had a good home in the end, that's for sure.

I always make a point of visiting the independant book sellers - their selection is always better, not to mention the service.

Now I'm off to click on your book links.

Carrie- We have a few independents left up here- I loathe and despise Chapters.

So sorry about Charity.

..did I mention that I hate Chapters?

Thank you for the Walnut Creek pictures! I can't wait to show them to Kevin tonight. Doesn't look at all like I pictured it. Of course the descriptions I hear are probably from the 1970s.

Sorry to hear about Charity. It's so hard to lose a kitty. BTW, Kiki's snit seems to have passed.

I'm sorry to hear about Charity. That's too bad. I'm thinking about you, sending good wishes.

Always sad to see another bookstore gone.

Thank you for all your kind words about Charity. We became better people for giving her our love and accepting hers.

The Rooches

I'm so sorry for Charity's passing. What a beautiful and sweet kitty.

Bonanza's out of business? Wow... Just wow.
