The steek is off center because I didn't know you're supposed to add and end on the edges not the center to leave three or four fully knit stitches to crochet & cut the actual steek on. I could probably just hack right down the middle of the Jamieson's Shetland it it'd be fine. Maybe.
Look! A collar! And facing the right direction too. (I managed to get left and right confused and knit about a quarter of the collar inside out first. There was a picture but my iPhone likes to scramble the picture order which is then compounded by being upside down or sideways, then the thumbnail pictures being the size of a........well, a thumbnail and I can't quite figure out what they are when I go to upload them.)
She has both her sleeves and is only lacking her buttonbands.
You all might want to say what you need to say to your loved one and prepare for The End, I'm pretty sure when I finish, it's the final sign of the apocalypse. Darn. I have more sweaters I want to knit.
The palm climbing cat isn't Hez but her cousin, Nerissa. Evidently she's taught her sisters the trick too. It's a jungle out there.
Awesome! You are so close... I sure hope it's NOT the apocalypse. I've got a lot of living I want to do still.

Wow, I thought that looked awfully active for Hez!
Oh no - off-center steek. *shudders* I'm going to have nightmares! Nightmares, I tells ya.

You've put my own knitting mishap into perspective. Thanks. The sweater looks lovely, though.
Posted by: TK | April 22, 2009 at 04:28 PM
Hahaha! Go, jungle kitty! That's pretty funny. As to the coming apocalypse . . . well, at least I don't have many people to say goodbye to. And, none of them are even around! Eldest in Memphis, Kiddo going to the pool daily, hubby in Portugal. The cat is my best bud.

I always just cut my steeks without crocheting or doing anything to the edges, and I frequently use Jamieson's yarn.
(I've read on Ravelry that the people who crochet their steeks use a different number of stitches so it won't end up off-center.)
You can always ask Bluedragon... she uses crocheted steeks, and probably knows what to do.
SHE is looking lovely! I didn't remember there was a collar!

Ooo, pretty! Show off ;-) I still have 20 rows of facing & then I'll be done.
Like Carolyn, I don't bother doing anything. Those who crochet seem to do an odd number of sts and crochet on either side of the centre st.

She looks wonderful!
That palm climbing cat would love it over here. o.O

Wow, it's gorgeous!

Awesome sweater. Clearly, tax season is over.
Posted by: kmkat | April 22, 2009 at 05:34 PM
Oh my!
It's gorgeous.
But I'll prepare for the apocalypse all the same. Maybe if you don't wear it for awhile we can eke out a few more knitting months?
Posted by: Helen | April 22, 2009 at 05:35 PM
Huh, I didn't know that about steeks. In fact, I thought you were supposed to add in yarn at the center since it was going to get cut anyway. I'm considering not reinforcing the steek before I cut - the Shetland is really sticky and I don't think it will matter anyway. The sweater looks BEAUTIFUL! And don't worry, it will take finishing my diss for the apocalypse, so there is time.
Posted by: Julia | April 22, 2009 at 05:42 PM
I agree with Helen. Just finish it and store it in the closet til summer is over. Maybe if you do that the apocalypse will pass us by forget about The End for now.
Now I must clean up my keyboard due to the droolage from looking at the beautiful piece of knitwork.

I think that's a beautiful sweater, Carrie. You are so talented! Nerissa's a brave kitty! I bet Anya would do that if we had a tree for her to climb. :-)

Lookin' good, and you're nearly done!
Love the climbing kitty! :)

The sweater looks wonderful!
I don't think you have to worry too much about the Jamieson's coming apart.

We never thought this day would come. You must be making Marina so proud.
Posted by: Kim D. | April 22, 2009 at 09:31 PM
Oh, she is beautiful! I am in such awe that you knit that entire thing. I can only aspire to that right now
The cat picture made me laugh out loud, thank you.

Apocalypse? Really? Then I must be contemplating an entrelac sweater or something. :D
Mary T. is fabulous! What's next in the Stranded World of Carrie?
(Nerissa must be distantly related to Gandalf.)
Posted by: Brigitte | April 23, 2009 at 05:13 AM
I think she's climbing the tree to signal about the misaligned steek. . .
Posted by: Kim | April 23, 2009 at 05:43 AM
Lovely!! I know that tax season isn't officially over in your mind till October, but surely there's been a bit of a letup?
(((hugs)))

Wow. Really, just wow.
Posted by: Miss T | April 23, 2009 at 09:31 AM
wish I had a before picture of the palm tree, it has been used badly by my feral Norwegian Forest Cat. Who knew that palm trees grew in Norway?
Happy Birthday Will Shakespeare, Hint Carrie.

Oh, wow. Wow wow wow. Can't be the apocalypse yet, though; I haven't knitted intarsia ;)
Posted by: Jocelyn | April 23, 2009 at 10:58 AM
Heh. My Maggie is learning we do not climb everything.
The steek... it is a learning experience... huh?
Posted by: Stacey | April 23, 2009 at 01:47 PM
It's looking great. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Posted by: twig | April 23, 2009 at 03:23 PM
It seems to me that in spite of your mishaps, the sweater is going to look fabulous and amazing! Yay Carrie!
Hm. Isn't Palm Climbing one of the sports in the Cat Olympics? Maybe Nerissa and the others are in training ...
Posted by: Bridget | April 23, 2009 at 05:09 PM
Yay! All but the button band! You know, those button bands can knit up pretty quickly. ;o)
That picture is exactly why all my plants are outside or at the library.
Posted by: Sonya | April 23, 2009 at 07:32 PM
Carrie- woot!!!
Posted by: Lorraine | April 24, 2009 at 07:37 AM
Way to go!! Tax season must be over huh? Looking great!
Great climbing cat picture...I was wondering if that was Hez on catnip since normally she's seems quite calm!
Posted by: Rachel | April 24, 2009 at 10:15 AM
Looks great!
and i've -never- seen a cat climb a palm tree before! :-o
Posted by: opal | April 24, 2009 at 11:00 PM
Teeheee...it is a jungle indeedy! Mr. Cheddar thinks this looks like a good plan, he is now searching for an indoor 'tree' to scale.
Your sweater is looking grand!Collar definitely in place.

It looks great! I'm impressed and saddened that the crochet steek didn't work for Ringbloomst, dang knit picks slippery yarn!
Posted by: Rebekah | April 29, 2009 at 03:10 PM
Mary Tudor looks amazing. Nerissa looks like she is having fun.
