Bribery or Human Sacrifice?
I Have Abibliophobia

Show Me a Man who puts Death Before Dishonor....

and I'll show you a man that can alphabetize. Sadly, Thankfully! I mean, no human sacrifices were necessary.

Btt2 Booking Through Thursday

1.  In your opinion, what is the best translation of a book to a movie? I liked Sense & Sensibility - I was reading the book and saw the movie right before I finished the final few chapters which left me nicely spoiled for the movie but not completely ruined. And.....that's the only one that pops into mind.
2. The worst? Any other movie where I'd read the book first?
3. Had you read the book before seeing the movie, and did that make a difference? (Personally, all other things being equal, I usually prefer whichever I was introduced to first.) I try to see the movie first if at all possible because otherwise I tend to point out during the movie how they've compressed four characters into one and ruined the integrity of the plot and that so-and-so is horribly miscast and what? What? That didn't happen! (Or should have happened here.) Yeah. People who love me hate this. People who don't know me at all? Hate me.

Possibly this explains why:

Your Score: The Chipmunk
Here's your results! Your spirit animal has a Nobility ranking of 7 out of 18.

Your spirit animal is the chipmunk. They are small and cute creatures who keep an exceptionally clean dwelling. They're not a very magnificent animal, but they make up for it in quickness, agility, and cuteness. They are a fairly common spirit animal, and nothing to be ashamed of.

***Wondering how this animal was chosen for you? These questions were carefully thought out to see how important you hold certain virtues such as: humanism, self-knowledge, rationalism, the love of freedom and other somewhat Hellenic ideals. Some of the questions were very subtle. Your score was then matched with an animal of corresponding nobility. However, you shouldn't think this was a right/wrong sort of test, but more of an idealistic values test. It's ok to not hold these values, you'll just get an animal spirit of lower stature if you do!***

Link: The What is Your Spirit Animal Test.

Oh lovely. A chipmunk. Next time I'm going to lie. Wait! I mean lying is NEVER right! Even if it spares someone's feelings. Why do I think a chipmunk is a lesser animal anyway? That's just......animalism? And it's wrong. So there. See if I pick healing for my super power now. Now it's all about mind reading. Maybe invisiblility.

On the plus side: Surviving a Zombie Apocalypse

Uh oh. I lost 3% somewhere. Probably that pesky spirit animal guiding me with his chipmunk nobility. Alvin!

ominated me and I'm totally not going to pass the torch on because I'm......a chipmunk! We're ignoble like that. Breaking chain letters, not nominating the required people, stealing memes -

In renovation news, there is paint. Here's a Before and a Slightly After Paint:

Hezekiah's take on the whole thing seems to beBlog_pix_483 "Get me out of here!" (That strip behind her is the new blue color of my bedroom. Hopefully it will be nice and icy and cool because at this rate, I'm going to have a migraine for the rest of my life.) (Not disabling, just annoyingly clingy).

There isn't much knitting or reading at the house. A word to the wise PRIOR to renovations, for the love of all that's dear to you, leave somewhere - anywhere - something chair-like to sit on and a working light that more or less works with the chair.

Peeve

Oooh. Apparently my spirit animal is deer. I have no idea what that means.

Tim Rooch

The African Queen is my favorite book/movie. I honestly can't say which I prefer. The differences were for the different media. My least favorite is House of the Spirits fantastic book, great cast, sucky movie.

Love the basket in the fireplace. It looks like Mom has a pot of stew on.

Just talked to My Beloved and she said her favorite book/movie is Tales of the City and her least is Bram Stoker's Dracula. Why? Oh why? are Winona Ryder's films picked on so?
love ya,
p.s. check out a Canadian series Slings and Arrows, great fun.

Tim Rooch

Forgot about the quizzes. I'm an otter, which is a fast moving sloth I guess. So that fits except for the fast moving part and I have a 38% chance of surviving. Shocking that, given my lack of skills and willingness to help anyone, but myself.

Jeanne

I like the paint you've chosen. That's a very nice, rich tan color you've chosen. What I can see of the blue is nice as well.
I really liked Sense & Sensibility, too, although I have never read the book. I'm glad to hear that the movie follows the book fairly well.

pixie girl

I'm a bat. Love how Hez seems to be saying "I want to be alone." The renovations look great :)! Is it my nom you're not passing on?? Oh well, the rocker in me recognizes the rocker in you, anyway:)!

chittavrtti

Another Otter here. I thought they wre supposed to be rather vicious creatures, smashing all those abalone and what not***CV

Crafting Jen

I don't know that I could give an example of a movie that was a good adaptation of a book. But I certainly can mention some adaptations that I don't think did well. The Harry Potter films.

I know, I know. But seriously - even from the first one, the best the movies could do was present "Scenes From..." And then the books got longer, and longer, and they had to leave more out.

Plus, the rich detail you can write in several paragraphs of text, but then try to convey in a quick visual on-screen - just no comparison!

As to other matters - my Cougar may be happy to eat your Chipmunk for a bedtime snack. But I'm only 54% likely to survive a zombie attack! ;)

--Deb

I loved Sense & Sensibility, too--once I got over the shock of Elinor being (ahem) so much older than Marianne . . . not to mention Margaret being so much younger than both of them!

Birdsong

It looks like the renovations are coming along well, though it must seem unbearable at your end till its over. Love the kitty photo. I hate to admit that I fell for the spirit animal test and got a grizzly ... I promise not to let my spirit animal eat yours.

Bron

I'm an Otter (which is a rare spirit animal & quite noble) but I only have a 47% chance of surviving the next zombie apocalypse.

Guess I need to watch more Wes Craven movies...

Marina

Mind reading might not change you from a chipmunk to something else. Maybe I shouldn't have admitted to liking mind altering stuff. But hey, I'm a chipmunk! I would like to be something else ;-)

melanie

I'm a cougar, and I have a 29% chance of surviving a zombie invasion. This must mean something, yes?

Chris

Does it bother you that your pet would eat your spirit animal? Damn, mine was a bat - nobility rating 9 of 18.

Um, I only had a 28% chance of surviving a zombie apocalypse...

Nancy, aka Bookfool

I love your new paint job and your house - I want a house that looks so inviting - and, of course, Hez. I love Hez.

Julia

Huh, I'm an elk. My grandparents were Elks - maybe it's genetic. Love the paint color - hang in there, it will be worth it in the end.

Jenni

Gee...I like Zeferelli's Romeo and Juliet

The worst? Romeo + Juliet with DiCaprio

stephanie

Nice color - love it!

Charity

Love your chipmunk - I'm an otter! :0)

The paint job is amazing, and I think the colour you chose for the bedroom is incredible.

Elspeth

I liked Sense and Sensibility well enough (mostly because of Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman) but the earlier version was better I think. I like a lot of movie versions of books. I'm sure there are a few I really hate but I'm blanking on them right now.

After seeing "The Warriors" I had some unanswered questions so I searched out the book it was based on and was sorry to find out (after an intensive search that ended at the Library of Congress) that my questions weren't even answered by the book!

Phoebe

I'm going to have to take this spirit animal test. Interesting. And I'm with Jen, the adaptation of JK Rowling's books have truly captured the spirit of the books and what she was trying to portray.

Becky

Remodeling is the pits -- until it's done.

I'm a cougar in the test. I think chipmunks are cool.

Sonya

I'm a wolf. I wonder how that happened. Anyway, I like chipmunks and I love your paint color.

Kim

Either Hez is perfecting Attitude, or, perhaps, searching for a representative chipmunk with whom to have a word. . .

Monika

We have lots of chipmonks around the house. Our neighbour started trapping them. I like those critters! They are fast! This is a fun game. This time I'm playing too! ;o)

Brigitte

Wow, my spirit animal is the wolf! Cooool!

On the other hand, I may need that help seeing how I'm doomed, with only a 30% chance of surviving a zombie attack...

Dave

I love your opening line! I also love your paint colour -- so warm and rich.

Liz

well, apparently I am very noble, in fact I scored higher than 99% on my Nobility, so you know I am thinking: Eleanor of Aquitaine kind of nobility, but somehow all this nobility pairs me with a, wait for it, uhm, an otter. Breaking shells on my belly, and swimming in the kelp... what about a bear? A bear is noble, an otter, is just not so noble, but, of course there is a chance I am missing something here...

Oh and PS: I think there may be a basket in your fireplace... is that Hezekiah's hide out?

Helen

I started out as a bat...but something didn't ring quite true, so I went back to change the iffy answers, and came up otter.
I hated the $10m question. I would do some of ALL of those things... save some, spend some, totally move to somewhere else -- but not to loll about as they imply, and donate some to worthy causes.
At least it thinks I'm sort of noble...wonder what it takes to get an 18? and which animal is THAT?

lyssa

I'm a cougar. Nyah nyah nyah.

My favorite book movie in a while is the Count of Monte Cristo...it's just as over the top and fun as the book. I also love the version of Much Ado About Nothing with Emma Thompson.

Jennyellen

Great blog - I live in the bay area too so it's fun to read about some local places you've mentioned.

Apparently, I'm a chipmunk too. Maybe we could start some sort of club. Meet in a tree, discuss our lack of nobility, gnaw on a nut or two....the possibilities are endless really.

Good luck with the rest of your renovations!

Jennifer

My spirit animal is a deer. Hmmm... I'm not so sure about that quiz. Good to know you have better than 50/50 odds for surviving 28 days later. :-)

joan

My spirit animal is also a deer. Great, now I have to worry about deer flies and ticks.
Love the new paint colors, I'm glad you didn't have to resort to human sacrifice.

I'm a deer. Sorry, gotta go knit something out of blaze orange right now...

tara

Well, I am a bat. Hmmmm.
Love the paint color! It looks great.

Felicia

I must agree that Sense and Sensibility was very well done as a movie.

Lorraine

Carrie- I love Jane Austen, and I thought the movie was amazing. My only complaint was that Hugh Grant has skinny legs.
But Alan Rickman could ride my horse anytime!

mrspao

Oh dear, I think I'd rather be a chipmunk than a bat!!!
