The By-Product of Tight Knitting.....A Christmas Meme! Well, not Exactly....
December 06, 2007
Tragic, no? That's three out of five in the set! (I have more than one set, thankfully. Or there might be more carnage.) But I'm filing down the ends and sealing them off with nail polish and they'll be starting their new lives in the witness protection program (well, did you SEE that abuse?) as glove needles. One of these days.
Another tragedy - which needle do you think was the right one to pull out? Where were you when I needed you? (No biggie, honest. Wool stitches just sit there and wait for you.) Wow, that color is really off.
On a jollier note........more or less shamelessly stolen from Knit Think...... The Christmas Meme!
- 1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Gift bags. I've been known on occasion to use paper bags. From the store of origin.
- 2. Real or artificial tree? Tree? Geez.
- 3. When do you put up the tree? When someone brings it over.
- 4. When do you take the tree down? When it catches on fire?
5. Do you like eggnog? Yes! Yum.
6. Favorite gift received as a child? A pony? (No pony.) Wow. I was either an ungrateful little thing or I never got what I wanted. - 7. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes, the one my grandparents had.
8. Hardest person to buy for? My dad, except for the last couple of years, oddly enough.
9. Easiest person to buy for? Me.
10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Maybe it's my memory. I don't remember worst either. Oh! I know! The year my first husband bought me four hubcabs. So. Whelmed. - 11. Mail or email Christmas cards? Christmas cards??
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? "Christmas in Connecticut" or "White Christmas"
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? All the time. Early. Possibly Christmas Day.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Probably.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Egg nog. Oh, eat? Pfefferneuse. - 16. Clear lights or colored on the tree?. Lights?
17. Favorite Christmas song? Silver Bells.
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Stay home. Home! Home. Hopefully.
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?! Yes. Can you?
20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Trees have tops? Wouldn't a nice sweater be better?
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or Christmas morning? Historically? Whenever my dad got called in to work, 4am one memorable Christmas morning. Nowadays? Christmas morning.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Shopping malls. Although it's kind of a year round thing. - 23. Do you decorate your tree in any specific theme or color? Are you kidding?
24. What do/did you leave for Santa? Cookies and milk. If he's quick.
Hez sez: "Thanks for the great idea, Chaos & Mayhem! I love my horizontal scratcher. I don't see what it has to do with the couch though. Do you?"
Serious. Needle. Bummer. In both cases.
I may have to buy my gang one of those scratchers. My first batch of cats were all vertical scratchers, so the 2nd batch inherited quite a few scratching poles, but maybe they'd like the other better.

Good lord. Do the needles flinch away from you in the store?!
Chaos says, "You're welcome" and "How the hell would you scratch that futon couch anyway? And why bother, when you could eat it more easily?" May says, "MGWT!"

Wow, another tragic case of wooden needle suicide. What were you knitting with them? Can you believe I only saw "Christmas in Connecticut for the first time last year? It's my new fave (and I love "White Christmas" too). It's such a pleasure to read the blog of someone with such excellent taste in movies and plays!

I think the needle breakage qualifies you to become a needle tester, kinda like the car testers who crash cars only with sock needles.

Oops, who knew I would stumble upon such horror and carnage! I sure got a laugh or two out of your answers to the christmas meme...

No tree? You don't know what you're missing ... cat using tree as a scratching post, cat trying to climb the tree, cat bringing down the tree.
We gave up trees a couple years ago, when the then pup thought the decorations were toys!

I wrapped a few presents tonight. I made hubby help me and was about to complain he was taking to long when I remembered that the reason he's a better wrapper than me is because he is much more patient and takes his time. I just want to get it over with. As a result, I prefer bags. Unfortunately, they don't work well when I'm mailing the gifts to the recipients.

That's quite some needle injury!
Posted by: mrspao | December 06, 2007 at 08:49 PM
Maybe you should switch to metal ones.... *cringe*
Posted by: bellamoden | December 06, 2007 at 11:18 PM
Hubcaps? Seriously?
Posted by: Miss T | December 07, 2007 at 06:43 AM
Heh. I must be ungrateful too, because I could think of a long list of 'worst' presents and struggled with 'best.'

OH MY! You murdered almost an entire needle family!
Posted by: twig | December 07, 2007 at 08:33 AM
Goodness! Well, when I break my first dpn I'll know I'm not alone... ;)

Carrie-Those needles would be sent back to the manufacturer- pronto!
I hate opening the gifts on Christmas eve. And I make the kids wait until I have my tea ready- I can be cruel like that.

Your needles are taking a beating! I think you and I approach Christmas similarly. Although in the spirit of the season I am going to go to a ceramics place next week and make a lighted Christmas tree.
I love the look on Hez's face.

My cats love the horizontal scratcher too. It doesn't dissuade them from the couch, however.

WOW! I've broken needles before, but I think it was from sitting on them.

I have some Susan Bates metal dpns that I would be happy to send you if you want some nonbreakable ones. There are 5 each of US#000, #00, #0, and #1. (My motto: Life is too short to knit on zeroes.) Email me if you are interested :)

Oh. Your funny. Reason #230 I don't knit lace? I had a bamboo circular SNAP on me. And yes, I lost most of the stitches. I feel for ya...
And I'm so with you on the Christmas thing. Except the eggnog thing...
What's with cats and half lying on stuff??

I enjoyed reading this meme, usually I just skip it. Too bad about the needles!
Posted by: Monika | December 09, 2007 at 09:14 AM
See? That's what happens when you knit while watching Heroes and wishing the whiney chick dead.
I learned my lesson already

CARRIE I LOVE YOU! I don't feel like such a Christmas slacker any more! We don't do trees any more, either -- our son and I are allergic to nearly every tree on the planet, and fake trees are just yuck. And the cat eats tinsel and gets ornament hooks in her mouth like she's a fish. And I don't do cards, either, because this is the time of year I'm preparing and giving and grading finals, and no one pays me to send out Christmas cards, so the finals take priority! And I would not go inside a shopping mall unless it was on fire and my family was inside.
Also, I am knitting away and learned how to make stripes! I even bound off a washcloth, and it only has one weird hole in it. I think I'm a convert! But I am too new to even see what's wrong with your blue and yellow thing up there.

I think using the store's bag is fine, especially if the actual item is covered in tissue paper. And I love Pfeffernuesse too! My favorite is the one from my local grocery store in MD, because it has powdered sugar on the top unlike the bagged ones you can get here.

We have a couple of those scratchers and the 'kids' love them, especially the one in the triangular holder, just right for grabbing with claws LOL....
Hope your needle problems are temporary!!

Having never met my niece, is Hez really so metallically silver, or is that just a camera artifact? She is gorgeous, no matter what her color.
